For a salaried person, the ₹75,000 standard deduction can make the effective no-tax gross salary threshold ₹12.75 lakh, subject to eligibility.

What is the new tax regime?

The new tax regime provides revised slab rates and is the default regime for eligible individual taxpayers, subject to applicable rules.

What is Section 87A rebate?

For AY 2026–27, eligible resident individuals under the new regime can receive a rebate of up to ₹60,000 when taxable income does not exceed ₹12 lakh, subject to the applicable conditions.

Is income up to ₹12 lakh completely tax-free?

Under the new regime, the Section 87A rebate can eliminate the calculated income tax for eligible resident individuals whose taxable income is within the specified limit. This is different from the slab rate itself being zero.

What is the standard deduction?

For AY 2026–27, the standard deduction is ₹75,000 for eligible salaried individuals under the new regime and ₹50,000 under the old regime.
